With the end of the year almost here, I have been think about all the great things that have happened to me this year. Usually there isn’t a lot of exciting things that change in my life in a year. This year has somehow been different.
- I was able to cure my gum disease
After spending most of this year trying to figure out the best way to save my teeth and not and have to spend a lot of money on repairing my horrible teeth, I finally was able to figure out how to improve my gum health. I brush and floss daily. Reaching all the way back in my mouth is difficult because I have a very strong gag reflux. Once I started adding mouthwash into my routine, I was able to get gums back down to a healthier number.
I have been afraid to go to the dentist ever since I found out I was in the early stages of developing gum disease. I didn’t want to go in and find out I would need to pay a lot to get them fixed.
When I found out just adding mouthwash to my routine cured my gum disease, I was so happy.
2. I made a new friend at work
Ever since I returned to work after covid lockdown, I started talking more to my coworker who works a similar shift as me. We got to know each other better and decided to hang out when we had the same day off.
She is Korean. I’m an average American who hasn’t experienced a culture different from my own. She wanted me to try Korean food that she grew up eating back home. We went to her favorite Korean restaurant. I tried all kinds of food I never knew existed. We had a good time and have hung out a few times since then when we can.
I am 32 and haven’t had a real friend since I was young. My social anxiety makes it difficult to connect with others and get the courage to continue a conversation. Becoming good friends with her has been a huge deal for me. I am grateful to have her as my friend and hope to hang out more with her next year.
3. I was able to purchase brand new windows
Thanks to the unemployment and stimulus checks I got, I was able to purchase brand new windows. A couple years ago, I bought a condo. The bedroom window was broken. During the winter, a lot of cold air would get in because the window wouldn’t stay closed. The window in the kitchen wasn’t sealed well.
Now that I had the money, I was finally able to get good windows. The guy that fixed them for me said they were cheap windows. I always got them fixed just before the supply issue happened and prices went up.
Now that it is winter here in Minnesota, my house is much warmer. I don’t feel any cold breezes coming in. I am so happy I was able to get the new windows I needed. I am not happy with everything that is happening with covid but I wanted share something good that happened to me with the extra money I received.
4. I got 2 raise at work
For the first time in my 13 years working at this company, I got 2 raises. Together they equal over $2 in raises. Usually I only get a 40 cent raise. I was very surprised at and happy. It made a huge difference in my paycheck. Unfortunately with the rising costs of everything, I don’t notice the raise as much as a should.
What good things have happened to you this year?
